Zandvoort Beach

On Sunday morning, we took a 70-minute tram-and-train ride to the coast, to a lovely beach town called Zandvoort.

The long and wide beach in Zandvoort.

The beach is immensely long and wide, with super soft white sand and a shallow entry into the water. It also has lots of beach restaurants lining the wide, elevated boardwalk, each with cabanas, loungers and umbrellas you can rent for the day. The restaurants are well decked out, with outdoor couches, lanterns, plants and music that give them a fun, beachy feel.

It wasn’t super crowded so it was easy to find a spot to lay down our towels, in among the many families that dotted the sand with beach umbrellas and wind tents. The water was cold, but super refreshing to swim in. We were a little startled when we saw a couple of jellyfish floating near the surface, so kept a lookout for them as we swam. Once out of the water, the soft breeze off the ocean felt amazing, if a little cool on our skin.

By 1:30 we were hungry and so we stopped in at one of the beachside restaurants, Ubuntu, where we had falafels and salad, Buddha bowls and fries. Everything tasted fresh and amazing.

Later, we walked through the town’s pedestrian-only shopping streets, and stopped for coffees before making our way back to the train station and our ride back to Amsterdam.

After a little rest at our hotel, we stepped out again in the evening for dinner (one more time!) at Veganees. The food there is just too good!

Tomorrow is another easy day – this time at ARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo! We can’t wait!

Yes, it has been great! We did do lots of pre-planning, but we also discovered lots of fun, unexpected places along the way. All in all, super fun!
